Bret Townsend: A Strategic Powerhouse Fueled by Authenticity and Operational Excellence

Bret Townsend: A Strategic Powerhouse Fueled by Authenticity and Operational Excellence

Can you tell us a bit more about the genesis of SavvyPro Freelance?

SavvyPro Freelance LLC is a polished look inside my brain and heart. I’ve been organizing whatever I can get my hands or mind on for years. Writing out schedules for myself and others who never asked me to do it for them (that can go either way). Planning my day, my week, my year. Figuring out how to make systems at my jobs run BETTER or creating them if none existed in the first place. It’s quite alarming how many companies lack efficient processes, approximately 80-85% of them!

I used to love helping my elderly grandparents, aunts and uncles use technology as it evolved in my younger years because getting that lightbulb of understanding to click on made me feel accomplished. I’ve been blessed enough in my childhood, adulthood, military and corporate career to have people who let me explore my gifts. It’s almost ALWAYS been at the benefit of others or my team.

With respect to time, I’d say SPF is all my failed, successful, and breakthrough successes in present-day form of a woman who has figured out how to navigate challenges, embrace opportunity for improvement, and show others how to do the same for themselves.

What sets SavvyPro Freelance apart from other strategy consulting firms?

My business model is based entirely on my desire to step away.

  1. SavvyPro is designed to bemobile and agilewith a “work from-anywhere” approach. This allows flexibility in scheduling obligations, and even a time- released strategy for services rendered to clients.
  2. Digital Brand Strategy for Public Figuresand Operations Implementation are SPF’s primary niche focus areas. Public figures are often the heads of either their own businesses and initiatives, or C-Suite (or the like) leaders of the companies they work for. As a leader who has grown her skills from the ground to respected change-maker, I know firsthand how positions of power require both the strength of proof of character and a way to effectively execute responsibilities as you lead others. The importance of understanding how all of the pieces matter to the business of your brand is what makes my firm different.
  3. Authenticity. My experience growing up on Chicago’s South Side, serving the US Navy for 16 years, leaving college after just one year and going right into corporate America allows me to bring a resilient, versatile, well-prepared perspective and set of skills to the table. I don’t sugarcoat, I’m straight forward, and the job gets done.

In your experience, what are the most common challenges small businesses face in terms of operations?

The first challenge is that they have no operations to speak of. These businesses consist of brilliant people, who want to do extraordinary things (usually for others), yet they have no tactical, strategic way to operate.

They are just either:

  1. Doing ALL OF THE things and burning out with NO end-goal in mind.
  2. Doing SOME OF THE things because they simply don’t know WHAT needs to be done or how to prioritize them.
  3. Doing NONE of the things; making their business a hobby that turns no profit.

Share 2 tips that readers can use to run their business more efficiently:

Sigh, just two?! Ok…

  1. AUDIT YOUR BUSINESS/ ORGANIZATION: Step back and look at what is working and what is not. Hire a specialist (shameless plug) to help you see things from an outside lens. Any of us can ask ourselves what’s missing, but we aren’t built to reflect on the things we hold close to us as objectively as we need to. Hire a professional.
  2. STOP IGNORING BALANCE: Entrepreneurship is NOT hustle or die. Learn how to manage your time and balance the MANY areas of your life prior to taking on new ventures. Entrepreneurship is hard work, the hours can be long, and you have good and bad days, but don’t lose sight of yourself, your health, or your loved ones. Seek professional help if you don’t know how to navigate those things.
