Christal Smith Shares HER Vision

You spent 20 years in food and nutrition—what inspired your transition into esthetics and wellness?

It was always my passion. I actually started as a cosmetologist at 18 years old, so beauty has been in my blood from the very beginning. My 20 years in food and nutrition gave me a strong foundation in wellness, but I knew I wanted to do more to help people feel beautiful and confident inside and out. My journey into esthetics felt like coming home. It allowed me to combine my love for skin health, self-care, and empowerment all in one.

How do you connect your culinary background with your approach to holistic skin health?

My culinary and nutrition background plays a huge role in how I approach skin health. I always say, “You can’t have glowing skin if you’re not feeding your body the right way.” I educate my clients on how what they eat affects their skin and overall wellness. I combine clean, nutrient-dense eating with customized facials and luxury at home skin treatments to help them achieve real, lasting results. I believe in nourishing the body from the inside and pampering it on the outside. That's the magic combo.

What’s one piece of advice you give spa professionals looking to secure sponsorships or expand their income?

My biggest advice is: become the brand and show your value! You have to position yourself as an expert in your niche and lead with impact. Brands and sponsors don’t just want someone who does great facials, they want someone who has a strong voice, a mission, and real community influence. Build authentic relationships, stay consistent with your messaging, and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. You deserve to get paid for the value you bring to the table.

As a two-time award-winning leader, what does being recognized by the Spa Boss Tribe mean to you?

Being recognized by the Spa Boss Tribe CEO Candace Holyfield-Parker, not once but twice, is truly an honor. It means so much to be acknowledged by a community that stands for growth, sisterhood, and real results. On top of that, being nominated for the Presidential Achievement Award because of my leadership within the Spa Boss Tribe took it to an even higher level. It validates all the hard work I’ve put into uplifting other women, supporting special needs moms, and empowering spa professionals to step into their greatness. It reminds me that I’m on the right path and that the work I’m doing is truly making a difference..

What’s your ultimate vision for how spa and beauty professionals can elevate their community impact?

My ultimate vision is for spa and beauty professionals to go beyond the treatment room and become true community leaders. I want us to focus on mental wellness, self-esteem, and empowerment especially for women and special moms like myself who often put themselves last. We have the power to create safe spaces, provide resources, and inspire real change. When we use our gifts to serve and uplift, we don’t just make people look good; we help them feel seen, valued, and unstoppable.
