HER Vision: Angelica Harris is Closing the Opportunity Gap, One Student at a Time

For many students, standardized tests can feel like barriers that determine the trajectory of their future. For Angelica Harris, they became the catalyst for a mission that is transforming educational access for Black and Brown students across the country.

As the Founder and CEO of Top Tutors for Us, Harris is redefining what equitable education looks like through technology, representation, and culturally responsive learning. Her education technology company connects students with exceptional ACT tutors from prestigious institutions like Howard University and Harvard University, proving that when students see themselves reflected in their mentors, confidence and achievement flourish.

But Harris' passion is deeply personal.

Growing up in New Orleans, she experienced firsthand the challenges many students face navigating standardized testing. Rather than allowing her circumstances to define her future, Harris dramatically changed the course of her life by raising her ACT score from the bottom 20th percentile to the remarkable 99th percentile. That transformation earned her more than $1.5 million in college scholarships and a full scholarship to Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned bachelor's degrees in Finance and Computer Science, followed by a master's degree in Computer Science.

Instead of simply celebrating her own success, Harris asked a bigger question:

"How can I make this opportunity accessible to thousands of students who deserve the same chance?"

That question became the foundation for Top Tutors for Us.

Today, the company partners with more than 30 schools and organizations, including New Orleans Public Schools, to provide high-impact ACT preparation and college readiness programming. The results speak for themselves. Students participating in the program have increased their ACT scores by an average of six points, opening doors to college admissions and scholarship opportunities that once seemed out of reach.

Beyond tutoring, Harris is building a technology platform designed to make personalized, high-quality academic support more accessible and scalable for students nationwide. Her work represents more than education. It is about creating pathways to economic mobility, expanding access, and helping close longstanding opportunity gaps that have impacted underserved communities for generations.

Her leadership has earned national recognition, with features in Yahoo News, FOX 2 St. Louis, WGNO, HEC-TV, InvestigateTV, and WBOK Radio. She has also become a sought-after speaker, sharing insights on educational equity, college access, and the future of technology in education at conferences and events across the country.

While accolades continue to grow, Harris remains focused on what matters most: creating measurable impact for students and families.

Every scholarship awarded, every ACT score improved, and every student who discovers new possibilities through education represents another step toward her vision of a more equitable future.

As both an engineer and educator, Angelica Harris demonstrates that innovation is most powerful when it serves people. Through Top Tutors for Us, she is not only preparing students for college entrance exams, but also empowering the next generation to believe that excellence belongs to them.

Her work reminds us that changing one student's future has the power to transform families, communities, and generations.
