I am Terry Henson, a proud wife, mother, and grandmother. My brand is that of a change agent, to provoke personal empowerment and inspire spiritual development.
What has been your most exciting accomplishment to date?
My most exciting accomplishment is the development of a life skills curriculum to train teenage mothers seeking to graduate high school. Having been a teenage mom, I am intimately acquainted with the hurdles and obstacles that can stand in the way. What excites me more is the prospect of guiding them in such a way that the experience of being a teen mom does not spiral into streams of fiery trials in their lives or the lives of their children. The implementation of this training will provide needed tools and resources that will affect generations. It empowers the teen mom to effectively nurture and care for the child's daily needs. The ripple effects reach the mother of the teen mom by undergirding her support of her teenage child, and it impacts the child directly by assisting in fostering an environment of love, learning, and acceptance.
Any advice to help women thrive through fiery trials?
It takes faith to thrive through fiery trials! The weight of waiting for change to come is daunting and can sometimes stretch you to your limits. However, the hope of change and the faith that God will see you through brings the needed strength and stamina to keep pressing. Understanding that “waiting” is a learned behavior will help you to stay encouraged. Even as children one of the most challenging things to learn is the discipline of waiting.
We want what we want when we want it! Though time and maturity help to temper the angst of waiting, it must be coupled with faith to endure the fiery trials of life. Some would say it’s not what you go through but how you go through it that matters most. Putting it simply, God is a fan of the process! Nothing goes to waste in a fiery trial when God orders your steps. Pain, frustration, disappointment, and fear all have a purpose that ultimately works for your good.
What is next for you in 2023 and beyond?
I am intentionally and strategically occupying spaces that welcome and maximize my gift of administration, my calling as a teacher, my passion to encourage and empower women, and my purpose in serving the community at large. With this as the backdrop, I am working collaboratively with my husband on a book project to help new Christian believers grow in their faith. I have partnered with several community organizations to bring training and guidance to young adults, women, and families. As an entrepreneur, I am embracing new business ventures that will allow me to further impact my community by providing affordable and safe housing.
