Q: Please introduce yourself and your business to our readers:
Coach Bev: My name is Beverly K. Johnson, and I'm a health coach, personal trainer, and transformational speaker. In 2015, I created Genesys Fitness. Genesys Fitness is a concierge service that provides in-home and virtual training options for its clients. This year, I've launched my newest program- The EPIC Academy. EPIC is a customized fitness and weight loss program that provides specialized solutions for your lifestyle, goals, body type, and age.
Q: How are your current efforts helping to propel women forward?
Coach Bev: My business's primary focus is advocating for my client's self-care. Over the years, I've discovered that self-care is the first thing that is sacrificed. The irony is that we need the energy to take care of others, but we usually put ourselves last. When we're able to nurture and honor ourselves fully, we're able to serve others effectively.
Q: What advice would you share for building a recognizable brand in a saturated market?
Coach Bev: I would suggest these tips:
- Take your time and develop YOUR voice. I was "encouraged" to pattern myself after a popular trainer in my early years. I thought to myself, "She doesn't need a duplicate. I can be myself".
- Stay consistent. As you're building your platform, it's important that you create value-added content that your followers will appreciate.
- Give yourself time. Social media will convince you that everyone has found success in less than seven days. That's simply not the case! Building a solid brand that people recognize and trust may take time.
Q: How do you stay motivated during uncertain seasons?
Coach Bev: I had to learn how to pivot and become willing to develop new skills. My arrangements with local fitness centers were terminated in the early months of the pandemic. I had to choose to close the doors or find another way to serve my clients. I created an online gym, and my business grew.
During uncertain times, become willing to open yourself to new opportunities. Without that curiosity, we'll run the risk of becoming stagnant.
Q: Tell us about your plans for the year and how to connect with you online.
Coach Bev: I plan to grow my wellness community and take on new projects aligning with my vision. I plan to grow the EPIC Academy and make it available online. I want to make it available to anyone who can benefit from it. I'll continue writing and hosting my weekly wellness segment for Swagher Magazine.
