Meet: Dr. Angela K. Chambers!

Can you share a bit about your background and what inspired you to enter entrepreneurship?

I'm a native of McAlester Oklahoma and a 1988 graduate of McAlester High School. I knew from an early age that I wanted to own my own business, which I've had several through the years.

My greatest relationship is with my Lord and Savior. I am a happy wife and a very proud mother and Nana. Currently, I reside in Tulsa Oklahoma which is also known as the original Black Wall Street. I am a business owner passionate about entrepreneurship.

On June 8, 2023, with my business partner Dr Francetta L Mays, we launched the first women-owned radio station in Oklahoma and it is the first black, women-owned radio station in Oklahoma located on the historic Greenwood Avenue. The Greenwood Beat - WFPG pays homage to my late grandmother, Wilma Factory Phifer Green, and of course the rich history and legacy of the historic Greenwood District.

I am the owner, manager, or partner of businesses in business consulting, construction, marketing, lawn maintenance, non-profit, print and publishing, radio, real estate retail, trucking, and transportation industries.

In October 2023, I received my doctorate in Business Administration from Larry Love University. Additionally, I received my master's in Entrepreneurial Studies and bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Langston University Tulsa campus.

Specialized training Certificate of Completion from Real Estate Ambassadors of America.

On February 8, 2024, The doors will open to my new store on the historic Greenwood, “Buying Time on Greenwood.” Buying Time on Greenwood is a curated antique and gift store featuring artwork inspired by the times before, during, and after the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre by local artists. The store will also feature products made and created on Black Wall Street.

How do you navigate setbacks and keep moving forward in the face of adversity?

I have to remember to check my heart posture and my faith level. We don't understand why things happen the way they do or why people do the things they do but I try in the moment , when I feel myself feeling hurt, pain defeated or anxious that I need to check my faith. I tell myself, "God" knew this. And that helps me because I do believe He knows all. Because he knows all any particular situation is not news to him and because I trust him I can find confidence in peace and knowing that it will be all right even while I'm hurt even when I feel pain or pressure it's going to be all right!

Any advice you can offer to aspiring women entrepreneurs looking to make their mark in the world?

Everyday in life comes with ups and downs and it depends on how you look at it, assess it and/or accept it. It is your response that will dictate how much pressure will build and whether or not you claim your victory or allow the defeat. Trust the things of God not man. Get to a place where what  you're doing does not compromise your integrity, your faith or trust in God. Find your passion and be open to discover "You."

Create a plan and revise when necessary.
